The Comb, Northumberland, Kielder

The spectacular Comb Reivers lodge sleeps 20 in 10 modern en-suite bedrooms. 60 acres of land to enjoy with dark skies surrounded by Kielder forest.

The additional farm cottage sleeps an extra 6 and there is a huge barn for weddings and functions. The barn can seat up to 250.

There may be no mobile signal, but the WiFi allows FaceTime and WhatsApp phone calls if you need to be connected.

All of the 10 bedrooms are en-suite and most offer French doors or balconies onto the land.

Steeped in SAS History

The forestry terrain around the Comb proved perfect for military training, and was widely used by the SAS. After training, plenty of relaxing happened at the cosy bar in the Comb.

Sir Fitzroy Maclean, a tall, charismatic Scot from the Highlands, is believed to have inspired Ian Fleming’s character James Bond. During one memorable visit to the Comb, the Duke of Roxburgh and others arranged a special surprise for Maclean and SAS founder David Stirling.

Although neither had undergone formal SAS training or received the coveted beige SAS berets, a simple ceremony was planned at the Comb’s bar to award them their berets. This event was captured in a photograph that is still on the wall today!
